It’s hard to have an ordinary life when you’re an extraordinary guy!
But eighteen-year old Enrique Alberto - also known as Ricky Albert, international pop sensation, to his millions of fans - is determined to give ordinary life a try.
He moves to busy New York City, where he can pursue his passion for singing and entertaining people while keeping a low profile. He does not want his career mixed up with his private life, especially now that he’s pretty sure of his sexual preference.
But soon, he realizes it’s better to just be yourself than to hide who you are. His journey through life may not exactly be what he expected, but he sure as hell would enjoy every minute of it. And when love finds him, he receives it with open arms.
Maybe he’ll turn out to be an ordinary man, living an extraordinary life...

I was somewhat conflicted as to how to rate this book. The writing was serviceable, but hardly brilliant. The characters and plot were so over-the-top as to be completely unbelievable. The pacing was strange with short scenes and then long time intervals between them. The writing was so simple, so completely devoid of nuance that I thought it might actually be a Young Adult novel - but then I thought of the graphic sex scenes and concluded: "no way"!With all those misgivings, why did I give it four stars?
Because the book was something that very little gay romance is - absolutely charming. It was a quick, fun read. It was a fantasy. To hell with realism! There's no way, in the real world, that a kid who was a member of a Menudo-style boy band from the time he was twelve, moves into New York City, on his own, with an allowance of only $100 per week and rises to the top of the entire entertainment industry in only a couple of years. And not just as a singer, but as a songwriter, Broadway actor, composer and writer. When he reaches 21, the trust fund his parents had carefully managed for him was worth (wait for this!) a half-billion dollars!
Virtually a virgin, the first guy he sleeps with is a hot, older man (his next-door neigbor), who also happens to be a Drama teacher and a great mentor. His ugly, fat, but lovable, manager hides himself away for six months and returns a full-fledged hunk with a perfect gym-built body, contact lenses, and an expensive haircut - so Ricky beds him, too. He introduces them to each other (in a threeway) and the two become committed life partners. In the meantime, he meets the love of his life, who turns out to be his best friend since they were infants (of course), who later becomes a rich and successful lawyer.
In fact, everyone Rick sleeps with seems to end up hugely successful and living with their perfect partners.
"Ordinary Guy" reminds me of the movie "Were The World Mine", in which everyone turns gay and falls in love to syrupy, but lovely, mood music and sings and dances off into the wings. In Ricky's world, everyone turns out to be gay, none of them are bashed or disrespected, and the greatest angst they encounter is whether they want to include a hot new guy in a threesome.
And yes, there are twosomes, threesomes, even foursomes, though nothing too kinky is involved.
But like the movie, "Were The World Mine", the sappiness, the unbelievable plot and perfect characters all combine to create a fantasy, a charming fantasy in which nothing terrible happens and you root for the entertainment genius to get everything he, and his partner Joey, ever dreamed of.
What a delicious change of pace! The last three Gay Romances I read had people die, others end up in the hospital, child abuse, and major issues of self-esteem. "Ordinary Guy" has none of these. What a relief - just charming characters, and a really lovely innocence that I've never before associated with Gay fiction.
For that alone, I tip my hat to Mr. Brooks, and recommend this book, highly, and with much sincere enthusiasm.

Ordinary Guy Gay Romance Erotica edition by Hank Brooks Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
While I don't believe the book description/summary did a very good job of selling this book, it was still well worth the read.
"Maybe he'll turn out to be an ordinary man, living an extraordinary life..." or maybe it should say he'll turn out to be an extraordinary man who learns its really ok to be who you are and hopefully you will find that truth in someone's eyes. After all, he is a child boy-band star, an actor, a singer, a writer, a choreographer, a gay man, and so much more. And while he thinks he is looking for an ordinary life, he forgets that normal is different for every individual and love transcends even the extraordinary.
Overall it was an easy story to follow though I couldn't personally relate to much of it. Good job!
